Serum
Skincare
The cosmetics industry borrowed the name serum from the world of medicine, where the serum is a serum that is extracted from blood and uses its properties for healing and protection. The first to give the skin care preparations the name borrowed the visual properties of the material, a transparent viscous liquid, without pretending to also associate it with the chemical properties of the medicinal serum.
When the word serum is added to the name of the preparation, it means a preparation that contains active substances in a higher concentration than usual, which is intended to give first and immediate help to the skin. Some of the active substances are supposed to penetrate the living epidermis cells in the upper skin layer and intervene in the cell renewal processes.
The serum preparations are intended for all ages, while for young women it will help maintain a flexible texture, and for older women it will serve as a restorer of accumulated damage from the sun, age, and environmental pollution. Some of them also contribute to an excessive external tightening of the sagging skin, but the result achieved is usually only temporary.
The serum products are used at least twice a year during the transitional seasons. Some women use the preparation more frequently, according to personal data of the skin condition. It is generally recommended to use it for a month (the time period of the renewal cycle of the upper stratum corneum in the skin), but each brand has specific recommendations, which depend on the concentration of the ingredients and the type of packaging such as ampoules for daily use, masks or moisturizing lotions. There are serum preparations intended for application under a moisturizing, nourishing or mask preparation, in order to increase the effect on the skin, but it is recommended to use the preparations according to the manufacturer’s instructions .
Because of the concentrated content of the product, it is more expensive than a normal care product, this is also the reason why it is not usually intended for continuous and regular use, but from a cosmetic point of view there is no reason to use it on a daily basis. You just have to remember that most serum products do not include sunscreens, so it is recommended to protect your face with a sunscreen before leaving the house.
